2011 WORK-IN-PROGRESS IMAGES SHOWN ABOVE Radiance Village started out as my version of Babel-IIB, my favorite arcology design of Italian architect Paolo Soleri.
That intial design was an enormous structure at about 1000 meters high.
I then scaled back my design to a 75-story tower more like an
environmentally friendly skyscraper than an arcology. Finally, I
decided to rescast Radiance Village
as a building I would actually feel comfortable living in. The
resulting design is a 20-story high structure with urban farming
located in the three main hanging tiers. The builiding is covered in
solar-panel paint, a product already under development and is
surrounded by a ring of windmills. I believe something like Radiance Village
could be built in the late 21st or early 22nd century. To convey
that hope, I have replaced traditonal ground vehicles with hovercraft
of various kinds to supplement the magnetic-levitation trains that
provide public transport. Primary Design Influence 1. Babel IIB Arcology from Paolo Soleri's book Arcology: The City in the Image of Man. |
