BATTLESHIP CONSTUTION

Battleship Constitution is a 3D CGI kit-bashing project used to learn Rhino 4. The design in meant to look similar to the spaceship of the Japanese TV cartoon Star Blazers and the science fiction film Wing Commander. The model includes parts by Paul F. Hymen, Richard Jeferies, Jeffrey Lynn, an Internet artists named Simon, Steve Wilson, and myself. I created the custom striped hull texture. The space backgrounds were created usign custom Photoshop brushes by Renderosity artists Antje, Designfera, and Raptura as well as the Photoshop plug-in Lunarcell.

INTERPLANETARY EXPLORER AUSDAUER

Before I got access to affordable computer graphics programs in the mid 1990's, I did marker renderings of my spaceship designs by hand. Interplanetary Explorer Ausdauer is set in the late 21st century where a reformed United Nations is sponsoring space missions. This design is one of the sources of inspiration for my 3D CGI project Solar System Explorer Endurance. In fact, ausdauer is the German word for endurance.

STAR CRUISER COMMONWEALTH AND EXPLORATION CRUISER COMMONWEALTH

In addition to doing numerous marker renderings of my spaceship design in the days before mass marketed computer graphics programs, I drew many blueprint sets in pencil on vellum. When Star Trek: The Next Generation began on TV back in the late 1980's, I was greatly impressed by the design of the Galaxy Class starship. I created a mid-sized exploration cruiser inspired the Galaxy Class vessel. I named my ship the Star Cruiser Commonwealth and set it outside the Star Trek universe since I was trying to sell my work in art shows at local science fiction conventions. With few sales and becoming a member of some local Star Trek clubs, I redid the ship as a Star Trek: The Next Generation era vessel and designated the revised ship as an exploration cruiser to avoid confusion with the earlier non-Star Trek design. The marker rendering shown above was one of two versions I did of the Commonwealth set in the Star Trek universe. Years later with active involvment in Star Trek fandom behind me, this design became the template for its final incarnation as the non-Star Trek universe Starship Commonwealth.

DRELL-19 KLINGON BATTLE CRUISER

This design has a similar history to the Commonwealth. The marker rendering shown above is of the third version I did of this design originally set in the Star Trek universe. It became the template for Starship K'lokal E'Kangok.
