CONCEPT - ZERVAFFENTHAN

The Zervaffenthan (Leviathan) Class Battleship is my spaceship design most inspired by the Star Wars films. It is smaller and employs lower star-faring technology than the huge Imperial Star Destroyers but is the most formidable ship in the Humanasol League fictional setting I have placed it in.

CONCEPT - GEWALTIKH

The Gewaltikh Class Battleship is inspired by the Imperial I Class Star Destroyer from "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope," one of my all time favorite starship designs. The Gewaltikh is another, less literal tribute to this well known science-fantasy vessel. The size and star-faring technology of the Gewaltikh is closer to that an Imperial Star Destroyer than the Zervaffenthan. The Gewaltikh is not part of the science fiction settings I am currently working in.

HISTORY - ZERVAFFENTHAN

The Zervaffenthan (Leviathan) Class Battleship is the largest capital ship currently in service in the Kruegarian Protectorate Starfleet. It is also the largest such ship in Human explored space. While the Humanasol League Fleet fields just ten "Upholder of Honor" Class Battleships, twenty-one Zervaffenthan Class vessels lead the battle squadrons of the Kruegarian fleet.

HUMANASOL LEAGUE UNIVERSE

The Humanasol League setting is my most pessimistic fictional environment. It is set in an alternative universe sone centuries in the future where Humanity has been exploring interstellar space for some time. I have used a fictional font for the Human ships in this setting to indicate that I believe that our actual future will be brighter than this. In the Humanasol League history, there have been two waves of interstellar colonization, one from Earth and another from its most successful colonies. The second generation colonies have broken away from Earth and formed the Kruegarian Protectorate which is more expansionist orientated than the Humanasol League. Two star-faring alien sentient species have been encountered during this time; the defensive-minded Ventronians and the expansionist-minded Klolodians. The Ventronian Interstellar Consolidation has become allies of the Kruegarian Protectorate and both need the cooperation of the Humanasol League in holding off the larger Klolodian Empire. All four of the instellar powers use star-faring technology akin to that in the science fiction film Wing Commander.

DIGITAL RESOURCES - GEWALTIKH

The Gewaltikh uses numerous detailing parts from fellow Renderosity artist and TrueSpace user Steve Wilson. Most of the weaponry and many of the blocky detail parts are his. The waist-band walls and hangar bay details are from a very detailed mesh of the Imperial II Class Star Destroyer, a 14 MB 3D Studio Max model by Thomas Ganshorn available as a free download from www.theforce.net/scifi3d/. The rest of the ship began as a copy of my Humanasol League Battleship Upholder of Honor . This initial model was greatly modified, most noticeably in the superstructure and underside engineering areas. I also added a number of custom detailing parts made especially for the Gewaltikh. I did all my modeling of this ship using TrueSpace 6.6.

Only a small number of textures were used for the Gewaltikh. A few came from various Internet sources, four more came from fellow Renderosity artists Manfred Thaller, Sean Kennedy, and Enrique Barreto, and two more were created by me from scratch. The fleet symbol and registration markings that add a splash of color to the hull are 3D objects I created. Running lights were added with Universe Image Creator 1.63 and CorelDraw 12 was used to add the weapons fire seen on three of the ten images seen above. The Photoshop plug-in LunarCell was employed to create the planet and moon in the image of the ship in orbit. Renderosity artist Antje Draling provided the special Photoshop dynamic brushes used in that same image for the starry background.
